Australia ‘disappointed’ after U.S. proceeds with 25% metals tariff

SYDNEY — Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday slammed U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to move ahead with tariffs on steel and aluminum as “entirely unjustified,” describing them as a “recipe for slower growth and higher inflation.” 

“It is disappointing,” the Australian leader said at a news conference Wednesday morning, saying the tariffs, which go into effect on Wednesday, go against the spirit of the countries’ close ties.
