Foreign tourists to Japan hit record 36m in 2024 on weak yen

TOKYO — Japan welcomed a record 36.87 million tourists in 2024, up 47.1% from the previous year thanks to the weak yen, according to data released Wednesday by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO).

The figure compares with 25.07 million in 2023.
