Japan weighs expanding U.S. rice imports as part of Trump tariff talks

Date:

TOKYO — Japan is considering expanding American rice exports as part of trade negotiations with the U.S., in a bid to reverse President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on Japanese exports, Nikkei has learned.

In the first round of trade talks on Wednesday, the U.S. side criticized nontariff barriers on rice imports and other products. Tokyo seeks to quickly identify priority areas for the U.S. and build a consensus at home.
