Japanese novels take British book scene by storm

LONDON — English translations of Japanese novels are becoming best sellers in Britain. Asako Yuzuki’s “Butter” has sold 280,000 copies, surpassing the sales of the original in Japan.

Japanese fiction accounts for 40% of top-selling translated literature in the U.K., with stories by female authors about everyday life proving particularly popular.
