Manchester United confident of signing Viktor Gyokeres because of Ruben Amorim – Man United News And Transfer News

Date:

Manchester United are confident of signing Sporting CP sensation Viktor Gyokeres, as per reports.

United’s Champions League qualification fate remains unclear as they gear up to face Athletic Club in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals this Thursday.

However, despite the uncertainty and their abysmal form in the Premier League, which has left them in the 14th position in the table, the Red Devils are hopeful of securing the services of one of Europe’s best players this term.

According to Football Insider, United are confident their move to sign Gyokeres is a “done deal”.

INEOS’ priority is to add more firepower to Ruben Amorim’s attack this summer and it is claimed the club has been working hard behind the scenes to reach an agreement for the Sweden international.

Now, United feel they are in a “strong position” to finalise an agreement for the striker who has scored a staggering 52 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions.

It remains unclear how much United would be willing to spend on bringing him to Old Trafford. His contract with Sporting includes a €100 million release clause but the Portuguese giants have shown desire to accept a lower fee.

The 26-year-old initially struggled in England at Brighton & Hove Albion before earning a major move to Lisbon in 2023 on the back of his impressive performances for Coventry City.

During his time as Sporting’s boss, Amorim unlocked Gyokeres’ true potential, turning him into one of Europe’s most prolific goalscorers.

His strong relationship with the United head coach has supposedly “swung the deal” in the Mancunians’ favour despite interest from Arsenal.

Having said that, multiple outlets in England have suggested United’s top target for the striker position is Ipswich Town star Liam Delap.

As such, it is difficult to see them push for the signing of Gyokeres at this stage of the campaign. Accordingly, it is best to take the claim of a “done deal” with a pinch of salt.
